Big Windows 11 update: the taskbar can move again
Got a computer on Windows 11? A big update rolled out this month, and it brings back something a lot of folks asked for: you can move the taskbar again. Not stuck at the bottom anymore — you can slide it to the top or sides of the screen, and even make it smaller if it feels too chunky.
The Start menu got a little love too. You can pick a small or large size, tidy up what shows on it, and the search box got cleaner — it now shows you where each result is coming from, which is handy.
This one matters for safety too. Microsoft patched a long list of security problems in this update, including a couple that bad actors were already using. Letting your updates install when they show up is the single easiest thing you can do to stay protected.
You may not see the new features the day the update installs — Microsoft rolls them out gradually, so give it a few days. But the security fixes go on right away, so it's worth taking the few minutes when your computer asks to restart.

You might've heard folks say Windows 10 is "going away." Here's the plain truth: Microsoft is still sending out free security updates for Windows 10 until October 12, 2027. Your computer is not going to stop working.
What "end of support" really means is that after that date, Microsoft quits fixing security holes. Between now and then, you're just fine — keep letting your updates install when they pop up.
When the time does come, you've got good options. Some computers can move up to Windows 11, and some are better off replaced. That's the kind of thing I help folks sort out every week — no pressure, no scare tactics.
